What:  The Steampunk and Maker's Fair
When:  November 15th 11:00am-7:30 pm
Where: Parc San Souci and The Lafayette Science Museum

Cité Des Arts and The Lafayette Science Museum announce their second year for an innovative joint adventure called the "Steampunk and Maker's Fair", a celebration of the connection between the Arts and Science.   It is a hands-on, interactive celebration of art and science at downtown Lafayette’s Parc Sans Souci and The Lafayette Science Museum.

November is “Innovation Month” in Louisiana.  Steampunk is 19th century science fiction fun.  “STEAMPUNKERS” are diverse innovators - many come and make and showcase their own music, stories, art, costumes and creative 19th century paraphernalia.  MAKERS are diverse innovators - many come and make and showcase their own work, designs, inventions and dreams.

This year we are excited to announce THE INCUBATRIX, a powerful opportunity engine for creators, community leaders and industry professionals to network through a unique interactive process, which is between MAKERS – this year 30 students from David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy and the Industrial Design students at UL - and Community and Industry Leaders.  The high school students are The MAKERS, with the UL students mentoring.  Together they pitch their projects and ideas through a showcase mixer from 4-6 pm in the Science Museum, at which the community leaders and professionals in the related fields advise and judge – everyone gets to know each other through the process.  THE INCUBATRIX is a S-T-E-A-M machine (Science-Technology-Education-Art-Makers) for innovative community development: • Stimuli for college recruitment • High school and University peer teaching and mentoring • Entrepreneurial stimulation and acceleration • Public showcase of makers work • Community and Industry networking opportunity.

The Acadiana Advocate is the Stage Sponsor for the Event.  Noble Plastics, Begnaud Manufacturing, The Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission are Title Sponsors for this event, and Event Rentals is a Major Sponsors. The Festival will feature live performance, including robotics, music, contests of all kinds (fashion, literary, beards, liars and storytellers, etc.) demonstrations, food, and vendors.
