ART EXHIBIT AT CITE DES ARTS - Glissando: A Foreshadowing

Glissando: A Foreshadowing  is an art exhibit organized by The Milena Theatre Group and functions as a visual prologue to the group’s upcoming production, Glissando; Or, The Art of Cruelty. The exhibit showcases the diverse and unusual creativity of the cast of Glissando: photography, paintings, play and poetry collections, collage, and art pieces made of discarded pages of the production script. Some of the art objects will become props or set pieces for the actual production.

Glissando: A Foreshadowing  -- November 8 through November 30 at Cite des Arts. Opening reception during this Saturday’s Art Walk, 6-8 p.m.

The Milena Theatre Group is a Lafayette-based interdisciplinary performance ensemble founded by Dayana Stetco in 2000. The group has produced two short films and 14 original plays staged on UL Lafayette’s campus and at art galleries downtown, at Cite des Arts, and Freetown Studios. The Milena Group productions include The Fantastical Nightmares of Mr. Dorian Gray; D. Director, Dictator, Dracula; Barbarian at the Gates; The Happiness Machine; The Silentio Project; and, most recently, Noir: A Love Story.

Glissando; Or, The Art of Cruelty is a revision of Anton Chekhov's classical play, Three Sisters. The play analyzes modern love and the complex relationships it creates by telling the story of a contemporary playwright who develops relationships with the actresses playing three sisters in his latest play, while also trying to maintain the intense connection he has with his wife, a former actress. The network of interconnected dependencies that develops affects the lives of the characters and has a profound impact on the production they’re working on. Scenes of pure choreography allow the spectators to see "the laboratory," the inside of the playwright's mind, as he works on his play.

Glissando; Or, The Art of Cruelty -  Opens January 9 at the James Devin Moncus Theatre, ACA Lafayette. Written and directed by Dayana Stetco.
