As most of you know, I am part of the Chicken Soup for the Soul network. So, I get to pick and review any of the new books that come out. I am sure that almost everyone knows about the Chicken Soup for the Soul books. However, for those that don’t, Chicken Soup for the Soul books are collections of short stories sent in by real people about their own lives and experiences, or sometimes about the lives and experiences of close friends or relatives. These books are always at the top of the best sellers list.

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Reboot Your Life: 101 Stories about Finding a New Path to Happiness was compiled by Amy Newmark and Claire Cook.  They did a wonderful job of sharing great stories on how to get happy, to make that decision to be happy, and to follow that path.

I think this is book that everyone can identify with.  We all need to find happiness.  It may not always be easy but we need to strive for it.  Some of us may need a little reminding while others may need more.  My personal thoughts are that women need that nudging even more.  As women, we give so much of our lives, our time, our being to those around us.  We forget to take time for ourselves.  We worry more about the happiness of our loved ones than we worry about our own happiness.  Well, it is time for that to change.  If we are happy, those around us will pick up on that and be happier and/or work on their happiness.

The first story I read was "Doing Nothing Perfectly".   I love it.  It is so indicative of Americans in general,  when the author talks about how her family valued staying busy and doing things perfectly.  Our culture is so worried about getting so much work done, and thinks that sitting around doing nothing is laziness.  Well, this author has learned the secret that so many others are just coming to realize - doing nothing except concentrating on your breathing can be rejuvenating and lead to happiness.  In fact, studies have shown that meditating, doing yoga, or just plain concentrating on your breathing is beneficial to your health.  I guess it is time for me to start working on that and reading the rest of the book to discover more steps to happiness.

There are so many more great stories in this book.  There are stories for everyone.  I'm sure you will find something you will like if not love.  I love that I can skip around and find the story or stories that interest me at that moment.

I loved this story and so many others in this book.  It is a great book that you will love.  I'm sure you will end up sharing the stories in this book with your friends and family.  There are so many good stories that you will have a hard time finding a favorite.  Here are the chapters you can choose from:

  1. Do It Now
  2. Follow Your Heart
  3. Take A Chance
  4. Find Your Purpose
  5. Start Over
  6. Mind Your Health
  7. Overcome Adversity
  8. Listen to Your Friends
  9. Take Time for You
  10. Adjust Your Attitude

One of the things people, especially reluctant readers and children, like about Chicken Soup for the Soul books is that you do not have to read this from cover to cover. You can skip around from story to story reading the ones that pique your interest. This makes it the perfect book for those that are not big readers.

I highly recommend this book, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Reboot Your Life: 101 Stories about Finding a New Path to Happiness. This book, like all Chicken Soup for the Soul books make great gifts, especially for those hard to buy for people.
