As most of you know, I am part of the Chicken Soup for the Soul network. So, I get to pick and review any of the new books that come out. I am sure that almost everyone knows about the Chicken Soup for the Soul books. However, for those that don’t, Chicken Soup for the Soul books are collections of short stories sent in by real people about their own lives and experiences, or sometimes about the lives and experiences of close friends or relatives. These books are always at the top of the best sellers list.

Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Cat Did What?: 101 Amazing Stories of Magical Moments, Miracles, and... Mayhem by Amy Newmark and foreword by Miranda Lambert are full of stories about what else but cats.

I love cats or at least I used to.  Don't get me wrong, I still like them.  Unfortunately, I can't be around them anymore because I developed an allergy to them.  I had a cat up until shortly after my oldest daughter was born.  In fact, I considered my cat my oldest baby.  I had to move back to my mom's because I had to have surgery.  My mom was/is allergic to cats.  So, my poor baby had to stay outside and I eventually found a new home for her.  She was not happy having to stay outside all of the time.  About a year later, my boyfriend (now husband) and I told a friend we would cat sit for them.  This is when I learned I had developed an allergy to cats.  My eyes got itchy, and I started having problems breathing.  It took me a little bit before I figured it out.  I mean I couldn't be allergic to cats.  I had one the year before that slept with me all of the time.  I still usually have at least one cat but they are always outdoor cats now.  My youngest thought she could sneak a cat in the house a couple of times but my allergies always gave her up.

Do you have a cat?  Do you consider them part of your family?  As one of your kids?  If so, then you might want to pick up this book.

When I first opened this book, the first chapter I had to check out was "Who's in Charge Here?" and the story "Whose House Is It Anyway?"  I always find it funny to see how animals seem to take over our lives and our homes.  All I can say is thank God I'm allergic to cats or my house would be like this woman's house.  The author talks about how her 2 cats have basically taken over her rec room with all of their paraphernalia.  Why is it that our animals always end up with all kind of beds, toys, etc.?  It is like we can't pass up something for our animals when we see them in the store.  My husband and daughter are the worst with this.  I can't let them walk into a pet store because they always walk out with something including animals.

There are so many great stories in this book, too.  There are stories for everyone.  I'm sure you will find something to like.  I love that I can kip around and find the story or stories that interest me at that moment.

I loved this story and so many others in this book.  It is a great book that you will love.  I'm sure you will end up sharing the stories in this book with your friends and family.  There are so many good stories that you will have a hard time finding a favorite.  Here are the chapters you can choose from:

  1. Who Me?
  2. Learning to Love the Cat
  3. Who Rescued Who?
  4. That Little Rascal
  5. Four-Legged Therapists
  6. What I Learned from the Cat
  7. Who's in Charge Here?
  8. Meant to Be
  9. There's No Place Like Home
  10. Bad Cat

One of the things people, especially children, like about Chicken Soup for the Soul books is that you do not have to read this from cover to cover. You can skip around from story to story reading the ones that pique your interest. This makes it the perfect book for those that are not big readers.

I highly recommend this book, Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Cat Did What?: 101 Amazing Stories of Magical Moments, Miracles, and... Mayhem. This book, like all Chicken Soup for the Soul books make great gifts, especially for those hard to buy for people.
