NEW RELEASE........

On the surface Junie Olson’s life looks idyllic, from her handsome husband and beautiful daughter to her successful business, the bakery she'd always dreamed of opening. But in the past few months her world has slowly unraveled. Her precocious child is withdrawing, showing unexplainable signs of emotional regression, a condition that frays the bonds of Junie’s once impenetrable marriage. When her father dies suddenly of a heart attack, Junie packs up her daughter and goes home to help her mother. Her homecoming stirs up memories of the nightmare she thought she had put behind her, the disappearance of her childhood friend, Ellen. Haunted by recurring memories of what happened on that fateful day, Junie must gather the courage to revisit her past and untangle the secrets surrounding her missing friend, and the trauma that has caused her little girl to climb back into herself. As the pieces come together on the event that shook her small town, and at the risk of losing everyone she loves, Junie will question everything she thought she could rely on and everyone she thought she knew.

WHERE PETALS FALL is a gripping and emotional novel with an undercurrent of suspense, featuring a determined mother whose world slowly comes apart around her. Readers will root for Junie as they follow her transition into an indomitable heroine who must reconcile what she discovers about her husband and family’s tragic past, and find a way to put the pieces of her family back together and carry on.

Review:

Melissa Foster has done it again.  Her talent astounds me.  She is not only a superb romance writer but she is also a wonderful mystery/drama writer.  She has a knack for breathing life into her characters that readers come to care for and cheer for.  She not only understands the human spirit but she can put it into words.

Where Petals Fall will have you guessing until the end.  What happened to Junie's childhood friend and to her daughter Sarah?  How does one remember memories long buried?  How do you deal with trauma?  Was there any sexual abuse?  There are so many emotional twists and turns in this book.

This book like her others grabs your attention from the beginning and never lets go.  It is different from the others I've read.  This one has intrigue and mystery, repressed memories and dynamic relationships.  You will feel like a voyeur; it is so realistic.

As with most of her books, there seems to always be something that reminds me of my own life and things I've struggled (or struggle) with.  This time one of the lines that really struck me was, "Why did she feel her father's betrayal of her mother as if it were her he'd betrayed?"  I felt this same type of betrayal.  I think I felt this betrayal more than my mother at times.  Daddy's little girl (me) disappeared after my father had an affair and left my mom.  It's something I've struggled with for years and something I don't think I've ever completely forgiven.  As I've said before of some of her other books, this book is almost a form of therapy.  It may just be me but I'm sure there is something that everyone can identify with.

I give this book 5 stars.  Melissa Foster is an extraordinary writer that is sure to win literary awards and to be at the top of several Best Seller Lists.  This book does deal with some sensitive situations but nothing graphic or explicit.  Parents may want to read this one first before allowing their older children to read this.  I would allow my teen to read this but I know I'm much more lenient on what I've allowed my children to read over the years.  I've never really believed in censoring my children's reading much, especially, when they reached high school.  If you have a chance to read this one, DO IT!!!
