What
an amazing and inspiring day I had, yesterday. I was lucky enough to
attend a luncheon honoring Women in Business. My mom was one of the
honorees. I have to admit I was not very excited about going at first.
I was excited for my mom but I always feel like a fish out of water,
unworthy, and that I don't belong.
Yesterday
turned out to be different. Don't get me wrong, I still felt
uncomfortable and like I didn't belong. However, I was amazed how
inspired by all of these wonderful, extraordinary, and amazing women.
It is so inspiring to hear their stories. Several came from humble
beginnings or went through periods of extreme difficulties, but they
have overcome the odds and excelled not only in their professional lives
but their personal lives.
The 10 women that they honored
are great at their jobs. Which is really good. What is amazing is all
they do outside of their jobs, too. They are members of so many
organizations that make a tremendous difference in the community. They
hold down full time jobs, have families, and find time to volunteer.
I'll
say sorry to the men out their, right now, but successful women seem to
find the time for everything - family, work, and volunteering. They
can do it all!! They are great at multitasking, juggling several things
at one time, and walking that fine line of balance. They aren't just
successful in one area of their lives. They are successful in multiple
areas, and they make it look easy.
My only disappointment
was that there weren't more young women and teens at the luncheon. Talk
about making a difference. It would inspire these young women. I made
a suggestion that next year that they have sponsored tables for high
school student and Faith House (a women's shelter in my area). This is
the perfect thing to let them know that they can overcome the odds,
excel, and make a difference.
If you ever get the chance
to attend an event like this, go and bring your daughter, niece,
students, youth group, etc. You never know how this will impact them.
Let them see that anyone can grow up and make a difference.
Congratulations
to the 2013 Women Who Mean Business: Maureen Brennan (my mom), Sister

Jones, Pamela Lafleur, Christl Mahfouz, Nancy Marcotte, Jill Butler
Merkl, Stephanie Morris, and Angela Morrison. I hope you continue to
encourage and inspire those around you.
